I used to endorse and promote this tool: AdSubtract. Now, however, they have released AdSubtract Pro Version 3.0 which actually removed features from the prior version. I cannot recommend this tool any more (unless you can get the prior version, AdSubtract Pro Version 2.55. And I'm not the only one. See this page of reviews of AdSubtract Pro Version 3.0. When it worked before, it let you stop those annoying pop-up windows. It also blocked advertisements on the pages, blocked privacy invading cookies and speeded up page loads. All blocking was optional and you could make exceptions for individual sites. I received no money from this product; I endorsed it because it was just that good. Too bad they messed it up. My prior article and recommendation are below. As I browse sites across the web, particularly awards and Webring sites, one of the things I find particularly distracting is pop-up windows. So . . . I went looking for information on how to make them go away. I found a tool called AdSubtract Pro (previously called interMute) that acts as a web proxy for your browser and filters out pop-up windows. It also filters advertisements, animations, auto refresh, background images, background music, cookies, referrers, Java applets and JavaScript. All of this is under user control so you can turn any of these on or off on a site-by-site basis. I use this tool every day as a "default" for my browsing because it speeds up the loads of the page by eliminating unwanted stuff I won't use anyway. I do not "promote" very many products on my site. I heartily recommend this one. I make no money at all if you buy this product. I only promote it because I like it. In addition to the full-featured for-sale version, they just announced a free, download version. See below.
