U-2: Trapeze Stealth Modifications
"Trapeze" is one of two modifications Kelly Johnson used to reduce the U-2's radar signature. Trapeze attached long bamboo poles to both wings parallel to the fuselage and then attached wires to these poles. In addition, some "beaded" wires were used. The objective was to use these wires to "trap" radar pulses. The second modification called "Wallpaper" covered the body and wings of the aircraft with anechoic materials to absorb radar energy.
