Trapeze Stealth Modifications to the U-2 (from the Cold War Museum at www.coldwar.org/pictures/reconaisance_pictures/u2rainbow.jpg used with permission)
U-2: Trapeze Stealth Modifications
"Trapeze" is one of two modifications Kelly Johnson used to reduce the U-2's radar signature. Trapeze attached long bamboo poles to both wings parallel to the fuselage and then attached wires to these poles. In addition, some "beaded" wires were used. The objective was to use these wires to "trap" radar pulses. The second modification called "Wallpaper" covered the body and wings of the aircraft with anechoic materials to absorb radar energy.

U-2 Over Beale Air Force Base
This picture of a U-2 over Beale Air Force Base is from an unknown source. I obtained it on the net before I began keeping such detailed records.
I was fortunate enough to chase U2s down the runway here and also to fly as a passenger in a small training plane (not a U2) out of Beale.
