The Online Hacker Jargon File There is a book called The New Hacker's Dictionary .It is the print version of a source on the web called The Online Hacker Jargon File. This file, together with the related files describing its history, how hackers construct jargon, hacker writing style, etc., is the work of eric S. Raymond. eric is President of Open Source Initiative and is best known as the "Johnny Hackerseed of Open Source". The hosting site (www.catb.org) also includes some of his other works in addition to his personal pages. This Jargon File, a continuing work-in-progress, is not a source of information about current corporate or Wall Street information technology terms. It is a source of insight into the culture of hackers, their language, their internal disputes (e.g., PDP-10 vs UNIX), their views of legacy systems and more. And it is a source of laughter. Want to laugh, check out the definition of COBOL (see below).
