__________0. THOUGHTS
It has been a while since my last "issue" of Snippets. I've been busy on
other projects, starting a new business, working in the Webring Community,
helping some colleagues with their technology issues and staying busy doing
other things.
But, the lure to get back to Snippets was strong. And there is lots of news
and items of interest that just seem worth passing on. I suspect I'll be
putting out Snippets for at least the next several days, trying to push through
some of the backlog I've got.
__________1. QUOTATIONS
You can't fly a kite unless you go against the wind and have a weight to
keep it from turning somersaults. The same with man. No man will succeed
unless he is ready to face and overcome difficulties and is prepared to
assume responsibilities.
— William J. H. Boetcker
Politicians never accuse you of 'greed' for wanting other people's money,
only for wanting to keep your own money.
— Joseph Sobran
If the white man wants to live in peace with the Indian, he can live in
peace.....Treat all men alike. Give them all the same law. Give them all an
even chance to live and grow. All men were made by the same Great Spirit
Chief. They are all brothers. The Earth is the mother of all people, and all
people should have equal rights upon it.......Let me be a free man, free to
travel, free to stop, free to work, free to trade....where I choose my own
teachers, free to follow the religion of my fathers, free to think and talk
and act for myself, and I will obey every law, or submit to the penalty.
— From Chief Joseph, Nez Perces'
When the Earth is sick, the animals will begin to disappear, when that
happens, The Warriors of the Rainbow will come to save them.
— Chief Seattle
One difference between man and beast is that in the jungle there is no group
called Predators for the Ethical Treatment of Prey.
— Jim Rosenberg
Research is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody
else has thought.
— Albert Szent-Gyoergi

__________2. EPHEMERAE
Every day interesting “stuff” crosses my desk. Some isn’t important enough
to put on my site in any permanent way. But it is interesting enough to put
there somehow, quickly, at least for a while.
These are ephemerae: collections of temporary, transitory tidbits.
Today's ephemerae focus on both the FBI and terrorism, as well as some sites
related to personalities, personality profiles and personality testing.
The New York Times (01.Jun.2002), "Wary of Risk, Slow to Adapt, F.B.I.
Stumbles in Terror War":
"The F.B.I. is the greatest in the world at investigating a crime after it
happened, but it is not equipped to prevent crimes." This quote, which
closes the article, summarizes an expansive New York Times article on the
FBI.

Newsweek (10.Jun.2002), "The Hijackers We Let Escape":
The CIA tracked two suspected terrorists to a Qaeda summit in Malaysia in
January 2000, then looked on as they re-entered America and began
preparations for September 11. This Newsweek "exclusive" looks at what may
be "the worst intelligence failure of all".

__________3. NEW/CHANGED ON MY SITE
U-2 Graphics:
I've added dozens (!) of graphics on my site related to the U-2. I've been
very successful in locating many unclassified government photos of the U-2,
including photos of the brand spanking new, electronic cockpit. In addition
you can see many photos of the ER-2, NASA's civilian version of the Air
Force U-2.
