__________0. THOUGHTS

About 11 years ago, for a party I was planning, I called M&M-Mars to see if
it was possible to order M&M's in just one color. I spoke to a very nice
lady and to her supervisor. Both advised me that it was impossible. Couldn't
happen.

This past week, after going to the M&M's site to register to vote for their
new color, I discovered that it IS now possible to order whatever colors you
want. You can get 8 oz of the color or 5 lbs. You choose. All the colors are
available, you just pick and choose.

Ok. So it isn't a major advance that will save civilization. I still like
it.

__________1. QUOTATIONS

Spaceship earth: The problem for the passengers is that there is no manual
to identify all the parts, and no instructions on how to operate the
spaceship.
         — Richard Buckminster Fuller (1895 – 1983), inventor

All human wisdom is summed up in two words: wait and hope.
         — Alexandre Dumas (1802 – 1870), writer

I am dying with the help of too many physicians.
         — Alexander the Great (356 BC – 323 BC),
                   A self-diagnosis on his deathbed: 13 June 323 BC.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. The
latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to
hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.
         — Albert Einstein (1879 – 1955), scientist

__________2. EPHeMeRAe

every day interesting “stuff” crosses my desk. Some isn’t important enough
to put on my site in any permanent way. But it is interesting enough to put
there somehow, quickly, at least for a while.

These are ephemerae: collections of temporary, transitory tidbits.

_____Vote for the New M&Ms Color:
Looks like there is gonna be a new M&M's color. The prediction is that it
will be purple. Purple came in second to blue the last time we added a
color. And, purple (actually violet) was a part of the original M&M's pack,
before it was tossed out for tan in 1949.

_____M&M's Site to Vote:
Go here to vote. You can also buy whatever color of M&M's you want. Want 5
lbs of green? They can do that.

_____Wired (21.Feb),
               "MS Media Player Tracks You":
The Microsoft Media player . . . that software that plays your CDs and DVDs
. . . keeps track of what the computer has played and tells Microsoft. This
article explains the details.

_____Gilder.com/American Spectator (Jan/Feb.2002),
               "Ahead of the Curve":
In 1974 Art Laffer "invented" the Laffer Curve. It showed that cutting the
tax rate might actually increase tax revenue. (I remember when it happened.)
This is a brief look back at the history and an interview with Art Laffer
today.
