(NSA/NT was formerly known as the North Texas Speakers Association or NTSA).

Toastmasters International
I belong to two organizations related to my speaking career: Toastmasters and the National Speakers Association.
The National Speakers Association is an organization for professional speakers, people who get paid to talk.
Toastmasters is an international organization to help people overcome their fear of public speaking.
Toastmasters is also very useful to help professional speakers polish their platform skills.
I'm only a CTM (Competent Toastmaster), but I'm working on my advanced certification.

American Society for
Training and Development
Founded in 1944, ASTD is the world's premiere professional association in the field of workplace learning and performance.
ASTD's membership includes 75,000 people in more than 15,000 organizations in more than 100 countries.
Association of
Information Technology Professionals
Formerly the Data Processing Management Association. "Data processing" is "out"; "information technology" is "in".
Begun in 1951 as the Machine Accountants Association, then the National Machine Accountants Association. In 1962 it became the Data Processing Management Association. Finally, in 1996 it changed again to the Association of Information Technology Professionals
Association for Computing Machinery
The world's oldest and largest educational and scientific computing society.
ACM was founded in 1947. Today membership is more than 80,000 in more than 100 countries.
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
The IEEE and its predecessors, the AIEE (American Institute of Electrical Engineers) and the IRE (Institute of Radio Engineers), date to 1884. In 1963 the AIEE and IRE merged to become the IEEE.
Today, IEEE has more than 330,000 individual members in 150 countries. Through its technical publishing, conferences and consensus-based standards activities, the IEEE produces 30 percent of the world's published literature in electrical engineering, computers and control technology, holds annually more than 300 major conferences and has more than 800 active standards with 700 under development.
IEEE Computer Society
The IEEE Computer Society is the oldest and largest association of computing professionals in the world.
The Society dates back to 1946 when the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) formed the Subcommittee on Large-Scale Computing. In 1952, the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE) formed the Professional Group on Electronic Computers.
With the merger of the AIEE and IRE to become the IEEE (see above), the subgroups merged in 1963 to become the IEEE Computer Society.
The Society is one of the world's largest publishers of technical literature, and sponsors or cosponsors more than 125 technical workshops, symposia, and conferences each year.
Today, the Computer Society has more than 90,000 members worldwide.
Network and Systems Professionals Association
NaSPA, the Network and Systems Professionals Association was founded in 1986.
It began as National Systems Programmers Association. Adding international members meant an end to "National". Changes in membership made "Systems Programmers" obsolete. So it changed it's name and kept the initials.
Members include systems programmers, network managers, systems analysts and IT managers.
NaSPA currently has more than 40,000 members in almost 90 countries.
Interex: The International Association of Hewlett-Packard Computing Professionals
Interex is the the International Association of Hewlett-Packard Computing Professionals.
Interex is an independent, not-for-profit association (i.e., not owned or controlled by HP) providing information, education, and advocacy services to our members worldwide
I've joined this organization when the HP 3000 didn't have a model number -it was just the 3000. My member number is 69!
DECUS: Digital Equipment Computer Users Group
The U.S. Chapter of DECUS, the Digital Equipment Users Society, is an association of Information Technology Professionals interested in computer products, services, and technologies of Digital Equipment Corporation and related vendors.
International Webmasters Association
International Webmasters Association (IWA), is the industry's recognized leader in providing educational and certification standards for Web professionals.
IWA's accomplishments include the industry's first guidelines for ethical and professional standards, Web certification and education programs, specialized employment resources, and technical assistance to individuals and businesses.
IWA's now has more than 100 official chapters representing more than 24,000 individual members in more than 100 countries.

The HTML Writers Guild
The HTML Writers Guild (HWG) is the world's largest international organization of Web authors.
The HWG exists to assist our members in developing and enhancing their capabilities as web authors, to compile and publicize information about standards, practices, techniques, competency, and ethics as applied to web authoring, and to contribute to the development of the web and web technical standards and guidelines.
HWG currently has more than 123,000 members in more than 150 nations worldwide.

Nancy writes that she makes no claims to understand men, to know what makes them tick, or comprehend their feelings. Rather she judges the applicant by "the caliber, content and web-mastering skills of their sites". To those that she finds deserving she provides membership, and a seal to indicate that membership. It is not an "award". There are no 1st, 2nd or 3rd place winners. It is "different".
Though she makes no claims to understand men, I'd say, based on her Creed of The Phenomenal Men of the Web, that she underestimates herself. The final line sums it up nicely:
Sharing his soul... is what makes him a Phenomenal Man.

Treasures of the Web
This is a "group of individuals who refuse to be anything but 'the best' in all that [they] set out to do."
Mission: Our Mission is to make the web a place to learn and grow through friendships and sharing of knowledge, and to strive daily to make the web a safe environment for our children.
By joining "Treasures Of The Web" you are joining a group of people with a vast amount of knowledge all pooled into one area. When you join, you will receive the private URLs to the Members Only areas where you can get HTML help, help with software and hardware problems, help with finding files you might need, tips and tricks, Java support, and access to some of the best graphics people on the web.
Misker's Denizens
"Misker's Den-izens" is a group of people with a lot of heart. We are there for one another in good times and bad. We share in each other's laughter and in each other's tears. We are not a webring, we are a group.
We are not a group just for hits to a website. Our group is small because Misker wants to stay in touch with her members and wants her members to stay in touch with her. We in "Misker's Den-izens" have created a "Family of Heart"
Mensa
One of, and probably the most well known of, the hi-IQ societies.
Mensa was founded in 1946 and currently has more than 100,000 members in more than 100 countries.
Mensa members are in the 98th percentile or above.
There is a group within Mensa asking some good questions about the past, present and future of the organization. I recommend their site. See Going Forward.
Intertel was founded in 1966, and currently has about 1,700 members in more than 30 countries.
Intertel members are in the 99th percentile or above.
International Society of Philosophical Enquiry
Yes, that's "enquiry" with an "e".
ISPE is another of the hi-IQ societies.
ISPE was founded in 1974 and currently has about 650 members in 33 countries.
ISPE members are in the 99.9 percentile or above.
Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma
I am a member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, the Cherokee tribe.
I am still working to learn more about my heritage.
The seven pointed star represents the seven clans of the Cherokees. The branches represent the symbol of the eternal fire. The 1839 date is when the Cherokee first signed our constitution, in what later became Oklahoma, as a governing Indian nation.
I have suggested that the tribe develop a different web image to indicate tribal membership. Until that time, I'll just post the official seal.
