So many people kept writing me and asking me for a guestbook to sign, that I finally broke down and added one.

How Old Are You?

I don't want to seem rude, but now, when you sign my Guestbook, the United States government says that I must ask you - - -

How old are you?

If you tell me you are 13 years old or older you can sign my guestbook and tell me anything. If you tell me you are 12 years old or younger, you can still sign my guestbook, you just can't tell me as much.

(By the way, you don't have to tell me your age to view my guestbook. And, if you don't answer the question, I'll presume you are at least 13 years old.)

If You Tell Me You Are Less Than 13 Years Old

A law called COPPA went into effect in April, 2000. The United States Government doesn't want me to collect "personal information" about "children".

"Personal information" includes:

1. Your full name (you can use your first or last, but not both)
    
2. Your email address
    
3. Your website URL (at least, I consider it "personal information" even though the rules don't)
    
4. Any other personal information that would let someone identify you.

If you tell me you are less than 13 years old, and if you also violate these rules, I must delete your posting. If I don't delete your posting, the Federal Trade Commission might try to fine me $10,000!

Children's Online Privacy Protection Act Information Practices

COPPA (the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) requires that websites post "prominent links" to a notice of how they collect, use, and/or disclose "personal information" from children.

This guestbook provides the opportunity for a people to post "personal information" as defined by COPPA. So, I am posting this notice on this page to comply with that law.

Rather than attempt to obtain parental permission and maintain the wazillions of records required by COPPA, I just don't permit postings from anyone under 13. If I somehow discover that someone under 13 has posted, I delete the posting.
