So many people kept writing me and asking me for a guestbook to sign, that I finally broke down and added one.
Then after several years, Lycos stopped supporting these guestbooks and deleted all the ones that existed.
So now I'm starting over in the guestbook area.
To view it or sign it, just click on the link.
NB: LYCOS has abandoned it's support for their old simple free guestbook. This resulted in the loss of the posts of everyone who signed. I am working to add a new one to this site.
One benefit of signing guestbooks is to promote your own site. That is a good, win-win proposition. The site owner gets feedback and the signer gets a bit of exposure too.
But there is something called "guestbook spamming". Guestbook spammers travel guestbook to guestbook, dropping their graphic banner or button into hundreds of other people's guestbooks. But they don't offer anything substantive in their comments. Their comments are identical site to site for every link they leave. They haven't even reviewed the site. Instead, they are just using guestbooks as cheap advertising. This is just poor netiquette.
Please don't misunderstand. I'm not opposed to anyone promoting their site. I'm opposed to people signing guestbooks for the sole purpose of promoting their site. Site promotion should be an added bonus, not the primary motivation.
I don't want to seem rude, but way back when I first started, the United
States government required me to ask you:
How old are you?
The new guestbook I'm trying out because Lycos threw away my old one, does not seem to have a way to link to it to view that is different from linking to it to sign.
So if you tell me you are 13 years old or older you can sign my guestbook and tell me anything. If you tell me you are 12 years old or younger, you can still sign my guestbook, you just can't tell me as much.
(By the way, you don't have to tell me your age at all to sign my guestbook. And, if you don't tell me, I'll presume you are at least 13 years old.)
A law called COPPA went into effect in April, 2000. The United States Government doesn't want me to collect "personal information" about "children".
"Personal information" includes:
If you tell me you are less than 13 years old, and if you also violate these
rules, I must delete your posting. If I don't delete your posting, the Federal
Trade Commission might try to fine me $10,000!
